This Portland family needed a backyard that fit their lifestyle. Eager to demolish their old garage, and hungry for more edibles, they were ready to organize their barely-used space to better meet their needs. A walk-out deck surrounded by raised planters provides easy access to fresh herbs and vegetables. A new, compact “bike barn” minimizes the footprint for a storage shed while still providing an attractive privacy screen. More raised beds offer extra square footage to maximize the vegetable season. And a natural, yet functional stone pathway guides visitors through the lush edible landscape, offering tastes of raspberries and blueberries along the way.
