Landscape Design

Often times clients are interested in generating a detailed garden plan to help them organize their space, choose appropriate plants, and identify hardscape materials (paths, retaining walls, fences, etc.). The end result of the Landscape Design process is a scale drawing of the new landscape complete with labels specifying number and type of plants, hardscape features, and any relocated plants. In addition to a copy of the drawing, the client will receive a detailed Plant List that serves as a shopping list for all the proposed plants on the plan, a Materials List that will specify amounts of hardscape materials, soil, etc. that will be necessary in the design, and, if needed, a CD of images of certain plants proposed in the design.

The following is a brief description of my typical Landscape Design Process. It usually involves 3 meetings with the client. Please call or email for rates.

All Landscape Design projects begin with an on-site Consultation to familiarize myself with the site and project goals. Please see the Home Consultation page for more detailed information on this service. After the consultation, a contract for further services is agreed upon and signed. Detailed site measurements and observations are collected and recorded. Often this happens immediately after the Home Consultation. A Base Map of the existing site is drafted to scale and, using information gathered from the site and the client, a Concept Plan of a new design is generated. At the second meeting, we go through the Concept Plan to make sure we’re on the same page, and revise it accordingly. After more detailed design work, the Final Plan drawing is created. A photocopy and CD of the drawing is also made. At the final meeting, I hand off all material to the client and discuss how next to proceed with installation*.

See some examples of Landscape Design drawings below. For more examples and photos of completed projects, please see the Projects page.

*In the State of Oregon, Landscape Installation must be completed by a licensed Landscape Contractor. At this time, Deep Roots Edible Landscapes does not have a Landscape Contractor’s license for this type of work. I am able to advise clients on how best to install the landscape themselves if they choose to do so. Otherwise, I work with a number of reliable, experienced, and licensed Contractors who can handle a broad range of installation and construction projects.
